Powerful sound, catchy riffs with melodic and folk elements and a ton of guests to sing about a river? Well it may be strange but this is killer. Among the best 2021 releases and one of Antiq's top. The Loire never looked more grim than that, this is masterpiece.

Sentence of the back :
La Loire c’est le silence,
Des souvenirs qui me relancent
A travers quelques ronces,
Qui se noient et s’enfoncent
Et entre les lentilles d’eau
Luit l’oeil d’or d’une grenouille
Qui garde comme un tringlot
Le vieux bateau, qui rouille.
"River Loire means silence,
Memories harassing me,
Through a few brambles
Drowning and sinking,
Through duckweeds
Shines the golden eye of frog
Garding as a soldier
The old boat, that rusts"

“Au Fleuve de Loire” is the 3rd album of Hanternoz, following 2 concept-splits, 1 EPs compilation and 2 albums, the last of which came in 2010.
“Au Fleuve de Loire” is meant to be a tribute to the longest, largest of french rivers, the Loire. For the first time a river is the main character of a black metal album, and here is why : wildest and most protected big river of France, it is also the frontier of the 2 main languages of France until modern times. Making access to Atlantic ocean direct to Paris thanks to the stream downwards and the perfect winds upwards, the river quickly became the “Kings’ river, and King of Rivers” as many fortresses, ruling places and châteaux were installed on its banks.
The river is here presented in many ways, from the Natural point of view of endangered species to the many drowned souls it carriers, from the industrial era and mecanisation to the medieval history, from the fishing industry (viewed from the fishes’ point of view!) to the memories of the lyricist’s childhood.
Musically, the sound is stronger, more powerful, carried by a variety of guests and helping hands. Most worked and accomplished album of the band so far, it also lyrically confirms the bands status of mystical approach of ancient tales.

A Pagan black metal masterpiece.
Folk and black metal elements fuse into one extremely catchy and awe inspiring album. This band does not disappoint from all the high praise sent it's way. Abyssius Murkraken

The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity.

Late 90's BM worship, but it's also a lil more than that. This album takes the best elements from the scene it's inspired by and mostly avoids the worst of it; the song-writing is well-written, it's performed with passion and fun, and the production is raw but isn't lo-fi. (i.e. it doesn't obfuscate and/or suckass).
Tl;dr It's safe but high quality BM. Recommended. Rabbit
Joseph Hawker subverts the musical and sociopolitical status quo with a black metal triptych that's as incendiary as it is impressionistic. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 5, 2022
